Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. When is home learning due and how much do we need to do?
Every term, the home learning grid of 9 activities will be on the class webpage. Choose at least 3 (1 English, 1 Maths and 1 Topic) to do over the term and bring them in when they are done, so that we can display your fabulous work in the classroom. Mathletics, Read Theory and Spelling Shed can be used weekly to help support work we are doing in class too.
Q. How much reading should I do?
Aim to do between 10 and 20 mins of reading every day. As you are in key Stage 2 now, you may wish to do some independent reading, to yourself, then talk to an adult about what you have read.
*A grown-up at home should sign your home learning book to show that you’ve been reading at home (at least 4 times) and you should show this to Miss Farmer or Mrs Michaelis every Friday morning.
Q. What if I’m not reading at home?
If you aren’t managing to read at home, we may ask you to see us at assembly time, break time or lunch time so that we can hear you read a few extra times. This will help us to make sure that you are reading as often as you need to and making effective progress with your reading. Please speak to Miss Farmer about ways we can help you if this is the case.
Q. What can I do if I’m struggling to be motivated to read every day?
You could try having a story book and also scanning out a book from the library (talk to Miss Farmer or Miss Peters) to have at home so that you can alternate which book you are looking at. Don’t forget reading can also be sports magazines, child friendly news or magazines about something that interests you.
Q. Where can I find my passwords for Mathletics, Purple Mash, Spelling Shed or Read Theory?
Check in the front of your Home Learning book that you’re given at the beginning of term. If it doesn’t seem to be working, bring your book to Miss Farmer and she’ll look into it for you.
Q. How often is forest school?
We will do forest school every other week. Please keep an eye out for the dates! We will notify you if the day changes for any reason.
Q. When is PE?
PE slots do change every term as we have external sports coaches supporting different classes, among other things to consider, so we will let you know as soon as possible which days these will be. We will have 2 sessions a week and these will be outside in Term 1 so please dress appropriately.
Q. How can my grown up speak to my teacher?
During morning drop off we will be quite busy settling you in so if your grown up needs to speak to us, or give us a message, the best way is via email to the office (office@aldington.kent.sch.uk) then this will be passed to us as soon as possible.
