In Panda Class we have three TAs who work with us throughout the week. They are Miss Griggs, Miss Burchfield and Mrs Burden. You will also get to know Mrs Ridge who will cover some of my time outside of class, alongside Miss Griggs.
In Panda Class, our teaching and learning is split into child initiated activities (CIA) and teacher directed activities (TDA.) Each term, we have two curriculum questions to learn about. One will be decided by me and the other will be determined based on the class' interests.
In TDA, the children will spend time as a whole class or in small groups with one of the classroom adults. A few activities your child will participate in, during this time are; learning phonics, developing their English and maths skills and participating in music lessons.
The children will often refer to child initiated time as 'Choosing Time'. This is where your children can explore their thoughts, feelings and interests through play. During CIA, children often consolidate their learning from teacher directed activities and extend their knowledge.
We are extremely lucky in Panda Class to have an outdoor learning environment which has lots of lovely, open-ended resources for the children to use and explore. We spend quite a lot of time outside so please make sure your child has a named coat which they can wear on chilly days. We also have a very spacious classroom with many resources to help the children learn and play. Although we are unable to welcome parents/carers into our learning environment at the moment, we can't wait to share pictures of the children using the space with you.
Our PE day is a Thursday in Term 1
Unlike the rest of the school, we ask that PE bags come into school for Panda Class. This is because we will spend some time learning how to independently change into our PE kits during the first couple of weeks. We will be teaching the children about how to keep their school clothes tidy and in one place (please make sure all PE kit is labelled!) In our PE lessons, we will be strengthening our finger muscles ready for writing, thinking about how we hold a pencil and will begin to follow patterns.
If your child is going home with someone else other than yourself or their collection arrangements are different; we need to be made aware of this. Please either use the clipboards in the office to record this or write a letter making us aware of regular pickups. If you are not available to write it yourself, you can ring the office who will record this for you.
On this web page, I will share the Panda Class weekly newsletter and any updates which affect our class. Newsletters will be shared on a Friday.
